Genesis 4:2-9, 5:24

"But for Cain and his offering He had no respect or regard. So Cain was exceedingly angry and indignant and he looked sad and depressed." Genesis 4:5 Amplified Bible

Attitude is everything. It's obvious Cain had no respect for the Lord God Almighty. When God was not pleased with his offering, he became angry and indignant and looked sad and depressed.

"The Lord said to Cain, Why do you look sad and depressed and dejected? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not well, sin crouches at your door; it's desire is for you, but you must master it." Genesis 4:6,7 Amplified Bible

Very simple, easy to understand instruction from the Lord. And then Cain was warned! "...sin crouches at your door; it's desire is for you, but you must master it." Wow. I must heed the Lord's warnings.

As a music minister, I have seen angry, indignant, sad, depressed, dejected looks many times. It shows a lack of self control and a lack of respect to be angry and indignant with those in authority.

Do I agree 100% with those God has placed over me 100% of the time? No. But I trust my leadership and I trust God. So when I do even for one second feel angry or indignant, I must quickly repent and submit myself to my leaders and to God.

What happened next? I would think Cain would have thrown himself down before the Lord in humble repentance. But no.

The very next verse lets us know Cain wasn't even slightly repentant.

"And Cain said to his brother, Let us go out into the field. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him." Genesis 4:8 Amplified Bible

Cain completely ignored the Lord's warning. Then, in verse 9, he lied when God confronted him about his sin.

""And be not like Cain who took his nature and got his motivation from the evil one and slew his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his deeds (activities, works) were wicked and malicious and his brother's were righteous (virtuous)." 1 John 3:12 Amplified Bible

God's voice and His written word are both so easy to understand. Not confusing at all. If we do well, we are accepted. If not, sin is crouching, waiting to pounce on us! Simple.

A bad attitude takes us along an easy path in the beginning. But down the road a ways, things get complicated.

I desire to follow the example of Enoch.

"Enoch walked (in habitual fellowship) with God; and he was not, for God took him (home with Him). Genesis 5:24 Amp.

"Because of faith Enoch was caught up and transferred to heaven, so that he did not have a glimpse of death; and he was not found, because God had translated him. For even before he was taken to heaven, he received testimony (still on record) that he had pleased and been satisfactory to God" Hebrews 11:5 Amp

Not much was recorded about Enoch. But the few words about him were beautiful.

God please cleanse my heart today from any bad attitude or sin that is crouching, waiting to pounce on my heart and destroy me. I want a pure heart like Enoch had.  I want my record to reflect that I have pleased and have been satisfactory to You. In Jesus' name, AMEN
