Genesis 10 and 11
"Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew up to be a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a might hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, 'Like Nimrod, a might hunter before the Lord."
"He became a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD." ISV
"Nimrod was a great man in his day; he began to be mighty in the earth, Those before him were content to be upon the same level with their neighbours, and though every man bare rule in his own house, yet no man pretended any further. Nimrod was resolved to lord it over his neighbours. The spirit of the giants before the flood, who became mighty men, and men of renown, Ge 6:4, revived in him. Nimrod was a great hunter. Hunting then was the method of preventing the hurtful increase of wild beasts. This required great courage and address, and thus gave an opportunity for Nimrod to command others, and gradually attached a number of men to one leader. From such a beginning, it is likely, that Nimrod began to rule, and to force others to submit. He invaded his neighbours' rights and properties, and persecuted innocent men; endeavouring to make all his own by force and violence. He carried on his oppressions and violence in defiance of God himself. Nimrod was a great ruler. Some way or other, by arts or arms, he got into power, and so founded a monarchy, which was the terror of the mighty, and bid fair to rule all the world. Nimrod was a great builder. Observe in Nimrod the nature of ambition. It is boundless; much would have more, and still cries, Give, give. It is restless; Nimrod, when he had four cities under his command, could not be content till he had four more. It is expensive; Nimrod will rather be at the charge of rearing cities, than not have the honour of ruling them. It is daring, and will stick at nothing. Nimrod's name signifies rebellion; tyrants to men are rebels to God. The days are coming, when conquerors will no longer be spoken of with praise, as in man's partial histories, but be branded with infamy, as in the impartial records of the Bible." Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
11 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward,[a] they found a plain in Shinar[b] and settled there.
3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel[c]—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
Genesis 11:1-9 NIV
"Dear God, You see all the evil people and evil schemes going on in the world today. I pray that You would come down and confuse the evil people and their plans. You see the evil people on our government who are trying to destroy America and destroy Christianity. Either save these people, or destroy them! Lord Jesus, I pray that you would curse those who curse You and bless those who bless You. Cause mass confusion to come into the minds of those who are against You and against the spreading of the Gospel. Lord Jesus, I pray for the Christians all over the world who are being persecuted, imprisoned, and tortured. Deliver them, in Jesus' name, just like You delivered great men and women of God throughout the Bible, time and time again. Cause blindness and confusion to come to their captors. Send mighty angels to their rescue. Lord Jesus, I pray for the leaders, not only in America, but all over the world. Turn their hearts toward You. Lord Jesus, please clear the confused minds of Christians in America who have believed and accepted the lies they have been told by their school teachers, college professors, and the media. Please erase the garbage they've been fed, clarify their thinking and cause them to turn their hearts once again to Your Word. Your pure, unadulterated Word. I pray that a mighty revival of prayer, fasting, and a hunger for Your Word would sweep throughout our country and spread throughout the world. Your coming is so near and we must cleanse our hearts. I repent for my country, Oh God. Please, please, please forgive them for they know not what they do. Wounded Healer, please come and heal our land. I worship You and give You all the Glory in Your precious name, AMEN.
