March 20: People aren't very nice sometimes...

Judges 8:4-9:57

Judges 8:24-27

King James Version (KJV)
24 And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)
25 And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.
26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.
27 And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

"Dear God is there anything in my life that started out being a good worthy thing that may become a snare or stumblingblock to me or my household? Please reveal it to me O God."

Here are some stumblingblock scriptures I found online:

This was only page one of stumblingblock scriptures. Seriously, we have NO EXCUSE. The Word of God is full of help for us! Sure, we are tempted! Sure we are tested! But we have the ever present Word of God to guide us out of ANY situation!

Judges 8:33-35

Amplified Bible (AMP)
33 As soon as Gideon was dead, the Israelites turned again and played the harlot after the Baals and made Baal-berith their god.
34 And the Israelites did not remember the Lord their God, Who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side;
35 Neither did they show kindness to the family of Jerubbaal, that is, Gideon, in return for all the good which he had done for Israel.
There are so many stories just like this one. After all Gideon had done for the Israelites, they turned their back on God, worshipped idols, and also showed no kindness to his family. So why am I shocked when I pour myself out to people, and they turn away from me? I'm shocked every time. Seriously. Every time. I only need to read multiple stories in God's word to find out this is very common! And it's okay! Jesus went through this! Was anyone at His side showing Him kindness when he was being tortured, mocked, and hung on a cross? No. No one. Even his closest companions completely ditched him in his hour of greatest need.

Actually, we are instructed to rejoice when we are treated poorly.

10 Blessed and happy and [t]enviably fortunate and [u]spiritually prosperous [v](in the state in which the born-again child of God enjoys and finds satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of his outward conditions) are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake (for being and doing right), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
11 Blessed (happy, [w]to be envied, and [x]spiritually prosperous—[y]with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward conditions) are you when people revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things against you falsely on My account.
12 Be glad and supremely joyful, for your reward in heaven is great (strong and intense), for in this same way people persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matt. 5:10-12, AMP)
"Dear Jesus please help me to love. The way You loved. Please help me to be JOYFUL! Even when my love and concern for others is not accepted. I will praise Your name forever! You are worthy of my highest praise! In Your precious name, AMEN."
