February 28: Jesus My Refuge!

Numbers 35:9-15

Amplified Bible (AMP)

⁹ And the Lord said to Moses,

¹⁰ Say to the Israelites, When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

¹¹ Then you shall select cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the slayer who kills any person unintentionally and unawares may flee there.

¹² And the cities shall be to you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer may not die until he has had a fair trial before the congregation.

¹³ And of the cities which you give there shall be your six cities for refuge.

¹⁴ You shall give three cities on this [east] side of the Jordan and three cities in the land of Canaan, to be cities of refuge.

¹⁵ These six cities shall be a refuge for the Israelites and for the stranger and the temporary resident among them; that anyone who kills any person unintentionally and unawares may flee there.

refuge:

shelter or protection from danger or distress; a place that provides shelter or protection; something to which one has recourse in difficulty.

Are you in danger? Are you in the middle of a terrible storm? Are you in a difficult situation? Jesus is your refuge.

Psalm 46:1-11

Psalm 46

To the Chief Musician. [A Psalm] of the sons of Korah, set to treble voices. A song.

¹ God is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble.

² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains be shaken into the midst of the seas,

³ Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling and tumult. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

⁴ There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.

⁵ God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God will help her right early [at the dawn of the morning].

⁶ The nations raged, the kingdoms tottered and were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

⁷ The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our Fortress and High Tower). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

⁸ Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has wrought desolations and wonders in the earth.

⁹ He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow into pieces and snaps the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.

¹⁰ Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!

¹¹ The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our High Tower and Stronghold). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

"Jesus You are my Refuge and my High Tower and Stronghold! As I relinquish control of EVERYTHING in my heart and life, and run to You, I begin to embrace the peace that passes understanding. Its right there waiting for me! All I need to do is let go and run to You. So simple and yet so hard at times. Please strengthen me as I study Your word and seek Your face. I love You and realize You are my ONLY hope. To You be ALL the praise and glory. In Jesus' precious name, the Name above every name, AMEN."
