March 11: Shut up and march!
Joshua 6:1-27, 7:1-26, 8:1-35
Joshua 6:6-11
Amplified Bible (AMP)
6 So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.
7 He said to the people, Go on! March around the enclosure, and let the armed men pass on before the ark of the Lord.
8 When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the Lord and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.
9 The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, the priests blowing the trumpets as they went.
10 But Joshua commanded the people, You shall not shout or let your voice be heard, nor shall any word proceed out of your mouth until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout!
11 So he caused the ark of the Lord to go around the city once; and they came into the camp and lodged in the camp.
I heard a sermon many years ago entitled, "Shut Up and March!" I'm sure there would have been a lot of whining and complaining going on if Joshua hadn't given this command.
In 2007, I was at the peak of my struggle with panic attacks and depression. For years I had been worrying, fretting, and complaining. About everything. Since my healing in April of 2008, I have been consciously following my friend, Tara's advice. "Don't worry about the past; God's got it taken care of. Don't worry about the future; God's got the future taken care of. Just focus on doing God's will in this moment." In other words, shut up and march!
Joshua 6:20
Amplified Bible (AMP)
20 So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, they raised a great shout, and [Jericho’s] wall fell down in its place, so that the [Israelites] went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
I complicate doing God's will when I try to figure everything out. It's simple, really. I must obey His still small voice. And watch Him work. I must do what I can do. And watch Him do what I CAN'T do. And when the overwhelming negative voices come into my head telling me I'm crazy and it will never work, just keep marching. Thats all!
"Dear Jesus help me to shut up and march. Every day. As long as it takes! Keep marching. Keep living for You. Keep obeying Your voice. Keep worshiping. Keep serving You and others. Keep telling others about You. And please help me to get out of Your way! And let You shine! More of You and less of me. I worship You and give You ALL the glory and ALL the honor. I thank You. In Your precious name, the Name above every name, the name of Jesus. AMEN."
