Boot Camp Day 16
Bite Your Tongue and Wait It Out
Bite Your Tongue and Wait It Out
Mark 14:54-72 AMP
54 Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of
the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers [guards and servants] and
warming himself at the fire. 55 Now the
chief priests and the entire Council (Sanhedrin, Jewish High Court) were trying
to obtain testimony against Jesus [which they could use] to have Him [condemned
and] executed, but they were not finding any. 56 For many [people] were giving false testimony against Him, but
their testimonies were not consistent.
Are folks bad
mouthing you? When something like this happens to me, I always remember Jesus’
response. He said nothing.
I have tried to
defend myself and it never really works out. Have you noticed that people
choose to believe what they want to believe, regardless of the truth?
57 Some stood up and began to give false testimony against Him, saying,58 “We
heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple (sanctuary) that was made with
hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’” 59 Not even in this respect was their testimony consistent.
Their testimony was
not even consistent. That was proof that they were lying.
Is this happening
to you? Well, you pretty much have to just wait it out. That’s what I have
found out.
I have had junk
spread around about me that was partly true and partly false. That’s how the
enemy works. He takes a grain of truth and surrounds it with lies. And spreads
it around.
60 The high priest stood up and came forward and asked Jesus, “Have
You no answer to give [in response] to what these men are testifying against
You?” 61 But
Jesus kept silent and gave no answer at all.
One time, I believed that junk was
being spread around about me and I decided that I needed to put a stop to it.
(As you are probably noticing by now, WWJD definitely wasn't my motto...) So I
emailed everyone that I figured had probably heard it. (including Pastors,
family members, etc.) My husband actually advised against it. But I was
determined to put a stop to all of those lies. Well it actually made everything
worse. I should have followed my husband’s advice. (He is pretty smart.)
So the
moral of that story is this. When junk is being spread around about you, true
or untrue, the very best thing to do is wait it out! If you try to defend yourself, it may just blow up in your face. And when you hurt so bad from it all,
you have to give your pain to Jesus. He certainly understands what you are
going through! Better than anyone else. And know this; there is a 100% chance
that your pain will end. But when you try to fix it yourself, you only make it
worse.
Do you
feel like you are going to die from the heart pain? You won’t die. You are in
the Potter’s Hands. He is crushing you and breaking you. He is getting you
ready to be made into an amazing vessel to be used for His glory.
I have had
days where I just prayed over and over, “God please take this pain away!” All
day long. All night long. And you know what? He did! Sometimes it took one day,
sometimes it took several days. But all of a sudden, I would realize that the
pain was gone! The glorious freedom of no heart pain is indescribable.
Again
the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, “Are You the Christ
(the Messiah, the Anointed), the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 Jesus said, “I am; and you will [all] see the
Son of Man seated [with authority] at the right hand of Power (the Father), and coming
with the clouds of heaven.” 63 Then tearing his robe [to express his indignation], the high priest
said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the blasphemy [that is, His claim to be the Son of
God]. What is your decision?” And they all condemned Him to be [guilty and]
deserving of death. 65 And
some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their
fists, and to say to Him, “Prophesy [by telling us who hit you]!” Then the
officers took custody of Him and struck him in the face.
Do you feel
beaten down, trashed, and lied on? Take it to Jesus! He was treated like a common
criminal and simply said nothing. He allowed the blows to come. He allowed the
nails to pierce His hands and feet. Jesus waited it out. And then He wound up
ruling over everything!
“Dear
Jesus, someone reading this today is feeling bruised and beaten. They are
feeling like they are the topic of everyone’s conversation (whether they are,
or not). But You are our perfect example in this regard. You handled Your
greatest trial perfectly. And then You rose from the dead! To reign in victory!
Please comfort the broken hearted this morning, Jesus! Please assure them that
this trial will be over! And they will experience joy once again! Thank You!
You are the One True Amazing God! We can trust You in the middle of our mess!
We can have joy in the middle of our trial! How I love You, Jesus, AMEN.”
