GOD Morning!  March 13
Boot Camp Day 8
Playing Around with Your Soul

Matthew 22:23-46

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

23 On that day some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection [of the dead], came to Him and asked Him a question, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, leaving no children, his brother as next of kin shall [a]marry his widow, and raise children for his brother.’ 25 Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother.26 The second also [died childless], and the third, down to the seventh. 27 Last of all, the woman died. 28 So in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”
29 But Jesus replied to them, “You are all wrong because you know neither the Scriptures [which teach the resurrection] nor the power of God [for He is able to raise the dead]. 30 For in the resurrection neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven [who do not marry nor produce children]. 31 But as to the resurrection of the dead—have you not read [in the Scripture] what God said to you: 32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
34 Now when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced (muzzled) the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 One of them, a lawyer [an expert in Mosaic Law], asked Jesus a question, to test Him:36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 And Jesus replied to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].’ 40 The whole Law and the [writings of the] Prophets depend on these two commandments.”
41 Now while the Pharisees were [still] gathered together, Jesus asked them a question: 42 “What do you [Pharisees] think of the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed)? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The son of David.” 43 Jesus asked them, “How is it then that David by the inspiration of the Spirit, calls Him ‘Lord,’ saying,
44
The Lord (the Father) said to my Lord (the Son, the Messiah),
Sit at My right hand,
Until I put Your enemies under Your feet”’?
45 So then, if David calls Him (the Son, the Messiah) ‘Lord,’ how is He David’s son?” 46 No one was able to say a word to Him in answer, nor from that day on did anyone dare to question Him again.
“You shall love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
I love telling stories. I’m told that I can get a little wordy. So I will get to the point today.
I have a friend. She is a doll. She married a young man who was strong in his faith. He has since become a licensed minister in his faith. Very solid in what he believes. She is of a different faith. Very solid in her belief. They have been married for many years and to this day he is still very much against her faith. He is still constantly urging her to quit her church and join his. There is a constant tug of war in their home. After all these years.
I have another friend. Her daughter married a young man who was faithfully attending church with her. She felt sure that he would be solid in church after they were married. Shortly after they wed, he stopped attending altogether. This is a constant source of tension in the home.
I have another friend. She fell in love with a minister’s son. He was backslidden. Someone told her that God had assured them that he would be saved. She married him and he proceeded to abuse her and be unfaithful to her for many years. Eventually he was saved.
Folks! If you persist in relationships and marriages with people who are not like minded, you do not love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind!
I will end with one more story.
I was heartbroken at the age of 20. Or at least I thought I was. A young man started picking me up from work. We started hanging out a bit. He was a backslider of a different faith.
Backslide means to lapse or fall backwards in your relationship with Christ. To lose interest in following and serving the Lord. Some Christians use terms like "lukewarm" or "faith that's grown cold" to describe a person who is spiritually backsliding.
After a few weeks, my dad told me very clearly that I was playing with fire. I was playing around with my soul. I immediately stopped seeing him.
Um, excuse me! What are you doing???
Oh one more story. Satan always brings a fake promise right before the real promise.
I have another friend. She is my age. After many years of being alone, she started dating a man who seemed perfect for her. He attended church with her and even was baptized, but never received the Holy Spirit, with evidence of speaking in other tongues. They dated for a couple of years.
They became engaged. He was so sweet.
One day he told her that he didn’t like her church and stopped attending. Even though her heart was broken, she gave him his ring back.
Well, about 6 months later, she started dating a man that she had always admired who attended her church and was strong in the faith! See, he was the real promise. She just had to be patient.
Satan will tell you that you had better snatch this one up because there is a real possibility that you will be alone forever if you let this one go. He is a LIAR.
God’s got you!
“You shall love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
If you do this, You can’t go wrong!!!

“Dear Jesus, please! Help us to love You with everything that is within us! Please help us to truly put you first in our lives! Please help us to ignore our heart and follow the truths of Your word! In Your precious name I pray, AMEN.”
