Every Day God / October 22: Ten Temptation Tips!
Matthew 4:1-11Amplified Bible (AMP)
4 Then Jesus was led (guided) by the [Holy] Spirit
into the wilderness (desert) to be tempted (tested and tried) by the devil.
2 And He went without food for
forty days and forty nights, and later He was hungry.
3 And the tempter came and said
to Him, If You are God’s Son, command these stones to be made [loaves of]
bread.
4 But He replied, It has been
written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that
comes forth from the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil took Him into
the holy city and placed Him on a turret
(pinnacle, gable) of the temple sanctuary.
6 And he said to Him, If You
are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will give His
angels charge over you, and they will bear you up on their hands, lest you
strike your foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said to him, On the other hand, it is written also, You shall not
tempt, test thoroughly, or try exceedingly the Lord your God.
8 Again, the devil took Him up
on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the
glory (the splendor, magnificence, preeminence, and excellence) of them.
9 And he said to Him, These
things, all taken together, I will give You, if You will prostrate Yourself
before me and do homage and worship me.
10 Then Jesus said to him, Be
gone, Satan! For it has been written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and
Him alone shall you serve.
11 Then the devil departed from
Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
Fact: We will be tempted.
But, hey! We have Jesus’ example to follow!
When satan bombards me
with negative thoughts, I always remind him of Revelation 20: 10 and he’s
instantly gone.
Revelation 20:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 And the
devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where
the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night
forever and ever.
Ten Overcoming Temptation Scriptures:
James
1:13-18
When
tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be
tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted
when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then,
after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is
full-grown, gives birth to death. Don't be deceived, my dear
brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down
from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting
shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that
we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created.
1. God is
not tempting you!!!
Luke
22:40
On
reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into
temptation."
2. Pray!
John
8:6
They
were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
3. Beware! Satan
will set traps for you and he uses people! He can even use Christians! He can
use family members. He can use best friends and spouses. How do I know this?
Because he has used me before and I had no idea!
Matthew
6:13
And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
4. Pray for
deliverance!
1
Corinthians 10:13
No
temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he
will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,
he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
5. God will
provide a way of escape for you!!!
Mark
8:11
The
Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a
sign from heaven.
Matthew
22:18
But
Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you
trying to trap me?
6. Don’t be
afraid to look people (satan) right in the eye and bluntly ask them what they’re
up to.
Proverbs
7:25-26
Do
not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. Many
are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.
7. Run as
fast as you can from a seductive man or woman!
James
4:1-4
What
causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that
battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and
covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not
have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive,
because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your
pleasures. You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship
with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the
world becomes an enemy of God.
8. Stay
away from worldly pleasures and worldly friends! Stick with people who motivate
you to be closer to God!
1
Peter 4:12
Dear
friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though
something strange were happening to you.
9. Maybe you
already fell into temptation. Don’t waste time asking yourself why. Don’t sit
around beating yourself up and ruminating. And for Heaven’s sake, don’t even bother
with trying to explain to everyone why you messed up and attempting to defend your
actions. That never works. How do I know? Because I have done this. Simply pick
yourself up, get back on the Holy Highway, hold your head high knowing you are forgiven,
and keep marching!
2
Peter 2:9
9 The
Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the
unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
10. Hold on!
You WILL BE delivered!!! And they will get what’s coming to them, no worries!
“Dear Jesus,
thank You for Your amazing Word of Truth! I have nothing to fear! Yes, I WILL be
tempted, but You WILL provide an escape door! You are my dearest Friend. I am so
in love with You. I trust You explicitly. AMEN.”
