September 30: Even When!
Psalm 107:23-30
Amplified Bible (AMP)
23 Some go down to the sea and travel over it in ships to do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep.
25 For He commands and raises up the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea.
26 [Those aboard] mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the deeps; their courage melts away because of their plight.
27 They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man and are at their wits’ end [all their wisdom has come to nothing].
28 Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses.
29 He hushes the storm to a calm and to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea are still.
30 Then the men are glad because of the calm, and He brings them to their desired haven.
This is a beautiful passage. It reminds me of this one...
Mark 4:35-41
Amplified Bible (AMP)
35 On that same day [when] evening had come, He said to them, Let us go over to the other side [of the lake].
36 And leaving the throng, they took Him with them, [just] as He was, in the boat [in which He was sitting]. And other boats were with Him.
37 And a furious storm of wind [[a]of hurricane proportions] arose, and the waves kept beating into the boat, so that it was already becoming filled.
38 But He [Himself] was in the stern [of the boat], asleep on the [leather] cushion; and they awoke Him and said to Him, Master, do You not care that we are perishing?
39 And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Hush now! Be still (muzzled)! And the wind ceased ([b]sank to rest as if exhausted by its beating) and there was [immediately] a great calm ([c]a perfect peacefulness).
40 He said to them, Why are you so timid and fearful? How is it that you have no faith (no [d]firmly relying trust)?
41 And they were filled with great awe and [e]feared exceedingly and said one to another, Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey Him?
Why He's God! That's who He is!
My dad has written above this next Psalm, "A Powerful Song of Salvation!"
Psalm 116
Amplified Bible (AMP)
1 I love the Lord, because He has heard [and now hears] my voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live.
3 The cords and sorrows of death were around me, and the terrors of Sheol (the place of the dead) had laid hold of me; I suffered anguish and grief (trouble and sorrow).
4 Then called I upon the name of the Lord: O Lord, I beseech You, save my life and deliver me!
5 Gracious is the Lord, and [rigidly] righteous; yes, our God is merciful.
6 The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He helped and saved me.
7 Return to your rest, O my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have delivered my life from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling andfalling.
9 I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
10 I believed (trusted in, relied on, and clung to my God), and therefore have I spoken [even when I said], I am greatly afflicted.
11 I said in my haste, All men are deceitful and liars.
12 What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? [How can I repay Him for all His bountiful dealings?]
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and deliverance and call on the name of the Lord.
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord, yes, in the presence of all His people.
15 Precious (important and no light matter) in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (His loving ones).
16 O Lord, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid; You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord, yes, in the presence of all His people,
19 In the courts of the Lord’s house—in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
My dad also drew an arrow to a note at the bottom of the page which gives the Hebrew meaning of the verse, "I believed; therefore I said, "I am greatly afflicted. And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars."
The Hebrew meaning is "I believed even when I was greatly afflicted. And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars."
Sounds to me like the author was very discouraged. But he believed even when.
"O God, I believe. I woke up at 3 a.m. yesterday morning with fearful thoughts of the future of our country and my family. Our country, which once was founded 'Under God" is now being run by ungodly leaders. But I believe. Even When. As I study Your word, I believe You have always protected the remnant from harm. Thats all we Christians are right now, O God. A small remnant of society. But I believe. You are the God of my salvation. O how I love You. o how I adore You. You are my breath and my sunshine. You are my All in All. I declare this in Your great name, AMEN."
