Luke 24:36-53

³⁶ While they were talking about this, Jesus Himself [suddenly] stood among them and said to them, “Peace be to you.” ³⁷ But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a spirit. ³⁸ And He said, “Why are you troubled, and why are doubts rising in your hearts? ³⁹ Look at [the marks in] My hands and My feet, [and see] that it is I Myself. Touch Me and see; a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.” ⁴⁰ After saying this, He showed them His hands and His feet. ⁴¹ While they still did not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” ⁴² They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, ⁴³ and He took it and ate it in front of them.

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you, everything which has been written about Me in the Law of Moses and the [writings of the] Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” ⁴⁵ Then He opened their minds to [help them] understand the Scriptures, ⁴⁶ and said, “And so it is written, that the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, ⁴⁷ and that repentance [necessary] for forgiveness of sins would be preached in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things. ⁴⁹ Listen carefully: I am sending the Promise of My Father [the Holy Spirit] upon you; but you are to remain in the city [of Jerusalem] until you are clothed (fully equipped) with power from on high.”

The Ascension

⁵⁰ Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them. ⁵¹ While He was blessing them, He left them and was taken up into heaven. ⁵² And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy [fully understanding that He lives and that He is the Son of God]; ⁵³ and they were continually in the temple blessing and praising God.

1.    Doubt rose in their hearts when Jesus appeared out of thin air.

2.   He showed them the marks on His hands and feet. His whole body had been beaten beyond recognition. He must have looked great and recognizable when He miraculously appeared, right? I believe His other innumerable wounds were completely gone, but He kept those marks as proof.

3.   They were overjoyed, amazed and still did not believe. I have experienced this before. I have been so excited and yet on pins and needles, feeling disbelief.

4.   Jesus proved he was real by eating broiled fish in front of them. He is so cool.

5.   He explained everything to them again, and then told them about the Promise that they would receive in Jerusalem.

6.  Fully equipped with power from on high is what I read in the Amplified Bible.

7.   He blessed them.

8.  Poof, He was gone!

9.   They worshiped Him and obeyed Him by returning to Jerusalem.

10.     And they stayed in the temple blessing and praising God.

The Bible is so incredibly consistent. From Genesis to Revelation, I read basically this: Do the right thing. Keep your eyes on God. Worship Him at all times. Believe. Have faith even when you don’t see anything. There is a 100% chance that everything will turn around for good when we follow God’s word.

We are fully equipped to do anything we desire to do.

What do you desire to do? What are your dreams? God has given you the Holy Ghost and power from on high. You can’t lose with the God of the Ages living inside of you.

“Dear Jesus, I am empowered every morning as I read Your word and ask You what You want to show me for that day. I have been allowing life to hinder me from accomplishing my dreams. I am tired of saying this. I am tired of allowing life to hinder me. Please empower me today. Please fully equip me today. I hate my flesh. My flesh drags me down. I want to die to my flesh and live in Your fully equipping power. How I love Your word. How I love You, Jesus. AMEN.”
