³⁶ While they were talking about this, Jesus Himself [suddenly] stood among them and said to them, “Peace be to you.” ³⁷ But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a spirit. ³⁸ And He said, “Why are you troubled, and why are doubts rising in your hearts? ³⁹ Look at [the marks in] My hands and My feet, [and see] that it is I Myself. Touch Me and see; a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.” ⁴⁰ After saying this, He showed them His hands and His feet. ⁴¹ While they still did not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” ⁴² They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, ⁴³ and He took it and ate it in front of them.

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you, everything which has been written about Me in the Law of Moses and the [writings of the] Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” ⁴⁵ Then He opened their minds to [help them] understand the Scriptures, ⁴⁶ and said, “And so it is written, that the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, ⁴⁷ and that repentance [necessary] for forgiveness of sins would be preached in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things. ⁴⁹ Listen carefully: I am sending the Promise of My Father [the Holy Spirit] upon you; but you are to remain in the city [of Jerusalem] until you are clothed (fully equipped) with power from on high.”

The Ascension

⁵⁰ Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them. ⁵¹ While He was blessing them, He left them and was taken up into heaven. ⁵² And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy [fully understanding that He lives and that He is the Son of God]; ⁵³ and they were continually in the temple blessing and praising God.

I heard a sermon by Vesta Mangun recently. She is doing a New Testament series on Sunday nights. She said the only reason to study Scripture is to tell it. She pretty much stated, “Why learn about Scripture if you’re not going to tell it? Why learn about Scripture if you’re going to keep it to yourself?”

Jesus said, “You are witnesses.” They were to tell what they had seen and heard!

We are to tell everyone!

Start with what God has done for you personally. This works for me! I start talking about my healing from panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Everyone knows someone who is depressed or mentally ill. Everyone can relate to my testimony.

Please. Tell somebody every day. Let God lead you in your ordinary, everyday life.

Recently, I ran into a lady at Costco who I used to see every day at the health club. I waved her down. She had sunglasses on. She explained that she was recovering from cancer surgery and was having chemotherapy. She said she cried all the time. I grabbed her hand and said a prayer for complete healing right in the store. She was so grateful.

I went back and forth to church for so many years, doing very little sharing with others. Hanging only with my church friends. Thank God those days are over! I still minister at church, don’t get me wrong. But my real ministry is out on the streets, among hurting humanity.

“Dear Jesus, You are asking me to tell it! I am doing more, but not enough! I have been reading a book about a lady who started providing a hot meal and shelter for homeless folks every night. She inspires me. Lead me Lord. I will follow! I will go where You want me to go. I will do what You want me to do! You laid down Your life for me. I will lay down my life for You. I love You Jesus, Amen.”
