Shut Up and Get Out!
Mark
1:23-45
23 Just at that time there was in their synagogue a man [who was in
the power] of an unclean spirit; and now [immediately] he raised a deep and terrible cry
from the depths of his throat, saying,
24 What have You to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to
destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hush up (be muzzled, gagged), and
come out of him!
26 And the unclean spirit, throwing the man into convulsions and screeching with a loud voice, came out of him.
27 And they were all so amazed and almost
terrified that they kept questioning and demanding one of another, saying, What is this? What new (fresh)
teaching! With authority He gives orders even to the unclean spirits and they
obey Him!
28 And immediately rumors concerning Him spread [everywhere]
throughout all the region surrounding Galilee.
29 And at once He left the synagogue and went into the house of Simon
[Peter] and Andrew, accompanied by James and John.
30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law had for some time been lying sick with a fever, and at
once they told Him about her.
31 And He went up to her and took her by the hand and raised her up;
and the fever left her, and she began to wait on them.
32 Now when it was evening, after the sun had set, they brought to
Him all who were sick and those under the power of demons,
33 Until the whole town was gathered together about the door.
34 And He cured many who were afflicted with various diseases; and He
drove out many demons, but would not allow the demons to talk because they knew
Him [intuitively].
35 And in the morning, long before daylight, He got up and went out
to a deserted place, and there He prayed.
36 And Simon [Peter] and those who were with him followed Him [pursuing
Him eagerly and hunting Him out],
37 And they found Him and said to Him, Everybody is looking for You.
38 And He said to them, Let us be going on into the neighboring
country towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.
39 [So] He went throughout the whole of Galilee, preaching in their
synagogues and driving out demons.
40 And a leper came to Him, begging Him on his knees and saying to
Him, If You are willing, You are able to make me clean.
41 And being moved with pity and sympathy,
Jesus reached out His hand and touched him, and said to him, I am willing; be
made clean!
42 And at once the leprosy [completely] left him and he was made
clean [by being healed].
43 And Jesus charged him sternly (sharply and threateningly, and with
earnest admonition) and [acting with deep feeling thrust him forth and] sent
him away at once,
44 And said to him, See that you tell nothing [of this] to anyone;
but be gone, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your purification what
Moses commanded, as a proof (an evidence and witness) to the people [that you
are really healed].
45 But he went out and began to talk so freely about it and blaze
abroad the news [spreading it everywhere] that [Jesus] could no longer openly
go into a town but was outside in [lonely] desert places. But the people kept
on coming to Him from all sides and every quarter.
Do you live
in a home where there are unclean spirits? Maybe pornography is being watched.
Maybe sex outside of marriage is the norm in your home. Maybe violent movies
are being watched. Maybe abuse is a common occurrence in your home. Maybe drugs and alcohol are freely used. Maybe you simply
don’t have a choice right now. You are stuck in a horrific living situation.
All of
these activities are caused by unclean spirits.
Galatians 5:19-21The Message (MSG)
19-21 It is
obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the
time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional
garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show
religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition;
all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love
or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided
pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival;
uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could
go on.
This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you
use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.
What did
Jesus do when He was confronted with evil spirits? He told them to shut up and get out!
Maybe you
don’t realize the power that is in you. If you have been filled with the Holy
Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues and have been baptized in Jesus’
name, You are filled with power. The same power that Jesus had when He told the
demons to shut up and get out!
Simply pray
about your situation. You may or may not want to speak directly to the demon possessed
person as Jesus did. But I believe that you can go into your bedroom or the
bathroom and tell the demons to shut up and get out of your home. And every
time you are home alone, have a prayer meeting! Turn on some loud worship music
and pray over the home. Drive the demons out just like Jesus did!
I had a
friend who was temporarily stuck in a sinful living situation. She would go
into her bedroom and tell satan to shut up and get out! She continued to do this
and one day, the man who was hanging around the home drinking and cursing left!
It is not
God’s will for you to be stuck! But He expects you to pick up the weapons He
has given you and use them.
Simply do
what Jesus did!!!!!
“Dear
Jesus, I pray for that one who is temporarily stuck in a terrible living
arrangement. Either she doesn’t have the resources, or she is not old enough to
move out at this time. Please help her to pray, pray, pray away the evil
spirits that have been invited into her home. I believe that You are about to
show up and show off Your mighty power in her life! And I thank You for what
You are about to do! In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.”
